Explaining Death To A Child Posted by shanni on Saturday, August 30 @ 08:28:21 CDT (397 reads) Topic PHP-Nuke
| This Is A Topic Close To My Heart That I'm Not Just Tossing Out Here At S2. It Was Inspired By My Kid's Godfather Jared's Recent Passing On August 21, 2008.
My Lili - At 18 Months - Too Young To Understand Where We Even Where When We Went To The Viewing & Funeral This Week.
My 12 Year Old Already Knows What Death Is....
But Explaining It To Jared's 5 Year Old Son Ian Where Daddy Went & "What's Death?" He Just Knew Daddy Was Gone To Heaven & Never Coming Back. Ian's Mom Stephanie Did Her Best To Help Him Understand But He Just Didn't.
This Is Where I Want Your Input For Future Reference - How Do You Explain Death To A Child In A Way The Child Will Understand But Not Be Too Overwhelmed By It All Or Scared etc. What Are Your Thoughts & Ideas, What Would You Do, Or How Have You Handled This With A Child If You Have?

For Parents With Children Going Back To School Posted by shanni on Monday, August 25 @ 09:06:23 CDT (395 reads) Topic PHP-Nuke
| My 12 Year Old Nicholas Goes Back To School Today - I'm Writing This As He Prepares For His Day As A 7th Grader Jr High So This Is A Big One For This Family. I'm Very Nervous For This - Partially "Will I Get A Nap If I Need One With Just My 18 Month Old At Home Today?" The "Sleep While The Baby Sleeps" Ideal Just Doesn't Work Now That She's A Toddler.... As An Expecting Mom Energy Wears Thin Quick!
Here Are Some Quick Back To School Survival Tips That I Can Write Up In 5 Minutes (Pressed For Time As Many Of Us Are).
* Don't Buy Too Many School Supplies For The Kids Until You See What Your Teachers Are Going To Ask For. My Mother With Well Intentions Made This Mistake With Me Growing Up - We'd Go Out And Buy School Supplies To Prepare And Then My Teachers (Especially In Jr High & High School) Would Ask Us For Supplies Just For That Class Or Subject That We Didn't Have. I Wound Up With A Few Things Every Year That Cost Mom Money She Didn't Have That I Didn't End Up Using For School. If You're On A Tight Budget Like Me, That Can Be Costly And The Money Can Be Better Spent Elsewhere. Not That School Supplies Aren't Useful But If Your Children Aren't Using Them For School It Can Get Costly On Tight Budgets. So Buy Very Few Basics To Take With For The First Day Of School And Then Plan On Making A Store Run Just In Case You Need To Get More For Your Kids
* Prepare The Night Before - This Is A Given But Some People Think "Oh, I'll Have Time In The Morning To Do That Before The Kids Go To School" And If Your Toddler Loses Your Car Keys And You're Already Pressed For Time With Still A Ton To Do To Get Ready? PLAN AHEAD! Do All That You Can Do The Night Before. Preparation Is Crucial! Get Baths & Showers The Night Before, Prepare Backpacks & Lunches, Set Out Clothes You Know, Needfuls Like That!
* Will Add More To This List Later But I Gotta Get Nicholas In Gear For His First Day - Wish Me Luck!
* PLEASE By All Means, Post Your Comments & Suggestions - That's What This Is Here For. I Posted This Topic Today Because I'd Love Some More Advice & Helpful Tips From You And So Would The Other Mothers.
* Good Luck Everyone!
Post Update -
Sure Enough! Nicholas Needed An Extra 3 Subject Notebook With Folders & Needs Sewing Supplies For His Careers Class. We Will Be Getting This For Him In The Next Week Or 2!
